Saeko: How does BN help people with COPD? 

 

Dr Kaye: A person with COPD is usually treated with oxygen, others are even given high dose of oxygen. We already know how oxygen free radicals are produced and how harmful they are. A person with COPD will make an effort to breath they are consuming a lot of oxygen for their respiratory muscles to function and in the process consumes a lot of oxygen. Since the airway is obstructed, even with the great effort to breath, some of their body tissues do not receive enough oxygen and this will be manifested by low O2 saturation in the blood. When oxygen is given some tissues will be done reperfusion and sudden supply of oxygen will produce a tremendous  amount of oxygen free radicals and this  will create a cycle, causing continuous destruction of cells and this is called Ischemic Reperfusion Injury. BN has been proven to prevent Ischemic Reperfusion Injury eventually helping the cells repair and function again. Actually, I think this is also what is happening to a Covid patient and their cause of death is actually Ischemic Reperfusion Injury.
